NEWBIE HELP NEEDED, PLEASE!!

Post by klymidia » Sun 21 Jan, 2007 12:55 am

yes, i am a newb but i have always been a fan of mark and tom. i have several early cds by them. no vinyl. but that is changing since i just got a nice turntable.

anyways, the reason for this thread is i just want to know what i can still buy by tom and mark and all their other off shoots, you know what they are!

i just glimpsed that there is this amba cd coming and just so much more.

so if any of you guys can just list what is coming up that i can get, this would be appreciated. vinyl or cd.

you can of course get the trip 2 compilation (tom) and the Feel the spirit compilation (mark)

hey thanks for talking to a newbie. so that is it so far? i know that both are busy doing their thing. what about the re-issue of " 74:16" 2xcd? that one is out , right? it is just that the online store i use says that it is up for pre order only. maybe i am using the wrong online distro?

i have both the trips comp, the cosmos 3xcd comp, the jedi knights comp, the original 1994 copy of 74:16. no vinyl yet. i would be broke in no time.

what about that remotion re issue that mark was talking about in another thread?

thanks for shedding some more light on this issue, guys!! i just want to get back into the electronic music scene again since i have been out of the loop for a bit. i am now just heavily into another genre but i always still had interest in the electronic scene. i still buy stuff from the skam label and other of its ilk. thanks.

Edited by chuckcogan.....that damn quote function is not functioning like it should :?

Ebay is your friend, if you take your time and buy from well & trusted people. I've heard of loads of people blasting Ebay for this and for that, and yet I nor tens of people I know have ever had a problem with them, and the few that have, can always get things resolved through Paypal. You should always be insured to the hilt, before even thinking about such purchases, but I suspect you already knew that  Paypal will automatically cover you up to a grand, so there really shouldn't be any kind of problems.
Just about every single release ever done by Tom or Mark is still very much available out there. Your first stop, especially if you're after vinyl, would be as Mr. Walker pointed out -www.discogs.com - you really will find just about anything you're after in there, and they guys also host a really cool and up to date (ish) discography as well. Have a gander through, and see what tickles your own fancy, and get back in here and ask about to see if what you're after is actually worth the purchase; it usually is :D You will also get a ton of stuff on Ebay as well, but you will also (in some cases) pay through the nose for it. People chance their arm - that's life!

& welcome :D

Mark just released the first three Reload EPs on vinyl.
with more to come in the year I guess...

I think 76.14 came out on vinyl with the re-release...

That's really it in the way of "new" vinyl as of now,
but Mark seems to be on it.

thanks chuck for the helpful links. those were exactly what i was trying to find from here without wasting time googling.

so are those good online distros for some of tom's and mark's products? i have that freerange cd called shuriken something. pretty good.

so that ambra cd is the release everyone is waiting for? any other hotly anticipated releases that is coming in the new year?

thanks.

The Amba LP is not due for release untill just before Tom Middleton's demise; hence the title 'Lifetracks'. Everyone picked up the wrong end of the schtick on that one, and thought it would be just one of those 'normal' release thingies (that was about four years ago). Instead, what he appears to be doing, is to invent a whole new scheme of releasing music, and more than likely, at the rate I'm going, I'll never get to hear of it in this lifetime of mine, as I'll be long gone due to smoking way, way too many ciggies. Maybe heaven will have it playing somewhere - I hope I make it there
On a serious note: Mr. Mark. P is planning to (hopefully) release the follow-up to 'A Collection Of Short Stories' sometime this year. He's also done the folk compilation as well 'Feel The Spirit', which is sublime. Check it out if you can afford it. It's nothing to do (musically) with GC, but it is a lovely departure for him, and it does show what a diverse spectrum of music the man has. It's really worth the purchase.

76:14

Post by thewalker » Tue 23 Jan, 2007 10:32 am

the 2cd reissue of 76:14 is worth it for the second disc alone:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/76-14-Global-Co ... F8&s=music

since you already have the first edition.

and if thats the kind of global output you like..........hunt out a copy of blood music, its the absolute bollocks.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I reckon 'Blood Music' is better than '76:14', and by a mile.
It's funny that '76:14' is THE one that everyone seems to be going on about, when 'Blood Music' is IMHO, so much a finer piece of work. The musical content on that record is just absolutely mind blowing; so is 76, but it's not as consistent - again IMO.
Usually, Ebay has one or two floating about http://cgi.ebay.com/GLOBAL-COMMUNICATIO ... 0073207196 or there is winmx, soulseek etc......

It's probably my favorite release by these two.
