Remotion-> Mixed for You!

Post by hayhook » Sun 03 Feb, 2008 5:05 am

Hey y'all
I just got Logic for my b-day and decided to make a mix(or two?)
As I am the ultimate beginner at this, this is all very simple but I think not too bad.
Very respectful of the original material, and keeping the tracks mostly intact.
I took 11 global communication & reload remixes and put them back to back for one blissed out ride.
Since The reload remixes have never been compiled together, and many of the GC mixes were left off the original "Remotion"
comp. I wanted them together on a mix to listen to in the car/reading/going to sleep etc.
enjoy

1 Alpha Phase - Chapterhouse
2 On [Reload Remix] - Aphex Twin
3 Ride [Global Communication Dub Mix] - Soft Ballet
4 In Mind [The Reload 147 Take] - Slowdive
5 Visual Cortex [The Reload Redifinition] - Schaft
6 Gamma Phase - Chapterhouse
7 Amor Real [Global Communication Remix] - Jon Anderson
8 Rollercoaster [Global Communication Yellow Submarine Re-Take] - The Grid
9 Wild Horse [Global Mix Communication] - Nav Katze
10 Beta Phase - Chapterhouse
11 Aspirin [Global Communication Mix] - Sensorama

and...
in a similar vein:
A Universal Language Mix
Again I am not "dropping any science" in the mixing here.
(if you want that, check out rob hall's mixes at rob-hall.co.uk
actually do, his mixes are quite spectacular, and a new one every month, + he drops some Mark/Tom Tracks, every once in awhile, to boot)
this is just some of my fav GC/Reload/Link Tracks all scotch-taped together.
Most of the tracks are more or less in their complete form no "scratching" or mash-ups etc.
just 14 tracks that I rather love.
Hope you enjoy

1: 9:39 - GC
2: Sublime Creation - GC
3: Ob-Selon Mi-Nos [GC Mix] - Mystic Institute
4: Amenity(33rpm) - Reload/Link
5: Le Soleil Et La Mer - Reload & E621
6: Arcadian[GC Mix] - Link
7: Maiden Voyage I - GC
8: The Augur - Link
9: Soaring - Reload
10: Peschi (Short Stories Version) - Reload & E621
11: The Biosphere[GC Mix] - Reload & E621
12: Human Blancmange - The Jedi Knights
13: Isolation Part 2 - Pulusha
14: Aural Sedative - Amba

Yes, I'm really enjoying the "full" mix. Wonderful for work-listening.

And... The Flip of the RemotionMix Above (Chilled)
One to help you get your Groove On?
A chunky (and kind of clunky) Mix of the DnB,House, and Electro Mixes
by Mark & Tom in their Various guises (occasionally of their various guises).
Can't decide if I Like the 7'39" mix in the middle there. Is it an energy killer
or a nice little break, maybe just should come later in the mix (next to the nav Katze?)
Opinions? Hope you enjoy. Again a pretty safe mix, tracks
mostly left fully intact, very little mixing/beat matching/mashups
in an attempt to dodge popcorn/trainwrecks. No "science" applied.
Just my favourite "up" mixes by the GCs.

1 Evolution of the Beast [Global Communication Mix] - Palmskin Productions
2 Evolution of the Beast [The Chameleon Mix] - Palmskin Productions
3 Amazon Amenity [The Chameleon Mix] - Link

6 The Sun Rising [Mark’s Deep House Mix] - The Beloved
7 The Way [Secret Ingredients Mix] - Global Communication
8 7’39" [Link & E621 Appliance of Science Mix] - Global Communication
9 Space Jazz Carnival [Global Communication Mix] - Azymuth
10 Jumbo [Jedis Sugar Hit Mix] - Underworld
11 Disco Magic [Secret Ingredients Mix] - Jedis
12 Crazy Dream [The Reload Retro 313 Future Memory Mix] - Nav Katze
13 Absorber [Jedi Knights Mix 1] - Bomb the Bass
14 Antacid [Jedi Knights Mix] - Link & E621
15 The Flow [Jedi Knights Mix] - Model 500

Nicely done sir! All three sound excellent, really phat bass in there. Amenity at 33 sounds really cool - I used to do that trick with the original of Aphex's 'On'
I never tire of hearing these tunes, but it's always nice to hear them in new ways.

And on that note, here's my take:

http://homepage.mac.com/njb/.Public/funkyhouse.m4a

I made this years ago using SoundEdit on OS9 and it was my fix attempt at digital mixing - I could never get to grips with turntables and never had much vinyl anyway!
A lot of the mixes are pinched from Tom/GC sets and it's mostly Tom/Mark productions/mixes, with a few extra tunes I was into at the time thrown in (they're the ones that stick out like a sore thumb now!) and some cheeky samples.
I recently revisited it and added in a couple of extra tunes and chapterized it for iTunes (sorry, I know some of you are anti-iTunes) and have been meaning to let you guys have a listen to see what you think.

So, I had to do it, to finish out the series.
A little OCD here? anywho.

To complement the "Universal Language" Mix above, of the all the Chilled goodies from Mark and Tom
I did a Mix of all their various Thumpin' Tracks...

1 Peschi [Original Version] - Reload
2 Arcadian - Link
3 Can't wait tonight - Reload
4 Teque - Reload
5 Antacid II - Link & E621
6 Avatar - Link
7 The Deep [Original Mix] - Global Communication
8 Noddy Holder - Jedi Knights
9 Antacid - Link & E621
10 Moroccan Jack - The Mod Wheel
11 Solina (The Ascension) - Jedi Knights
12 The Push - N.Y. Connection
13 The Groove [Instrumental Mix] - Global Communication
14 Nutsin' - Jedi Knights
15 New York, New York (Headfuq Mix) - Secret Ingredients
16 Optimystic - The Mod Wheel
17 Close Your Eyes And Listen - The Chameleon
it's 114 mins couldn't seem to edit anything out... but cest la vie. I say the more GC et all the better...

hope you like. http://percussionlab.com/sets/global_co ... _beats_mix

Wow, I think that one's my favourite of the lot!
I've never heard Nutsin' before - it's a superb slab of funk, any chance of a trade for the unmixed version? ;o)

Many thanks for your GC mixes. You've done something I've always been too lazy to do myself, and you've done a fabulous job! An extra special thanks for throwing Nutsin' in the mix. Never heard it, and now I can die restfully.
sweet!

oh, I had a question about the Nutsin' track...
The track seems to be around six minutes long on your mix...is the original version much longer, or do you pretty much play it out on your mix?

i have to admit, I stole it from a breakbeat show kiss 100 DJ mix of tom's I had from somewhere, (hence the sound quality) and I chopped about 50 seconds or so off the beginning, as he was talking over it.
some typically joyful banter to the effect of "tom the jedi here...breakbeat show kiss 100... little forgotten nugget this... the jedi knights... live session at chiswick reach studios from a few years back now...
never got released... it's called nutsin'... totally live... recorded in one take" With his talking the track slides in at 5:42 and sounds complete... Starts with great rolling bass intro, then the guitar comes skipping in
and then I fade in, in my mix as the bongos start and the guitar stabs...

glad to know i finished on a high note... (not sure I like that mix of NY NY in there though...) c'est la vie
