lets see, looks like a face, yet definately a collage of industrial/electronic components.

electro with soul.


a combination of disparate elements re configured to create a new better whole.

there is damage, there is history, there are unknown elements and known elements,

there is mystery. a sense of both the etherial(imagined) and the solid(real).


or there is a whole lot of LSD, photoshop, good music, and talent.

Got my copy of the mix on Saturday as I'm sad enough to be on the Fabric First thing (getting sad and old trying to keep in touch with yoof culture etc etc)

Anyway have been very slack in getting onto listening to it for a few reasons but listened to it on my way into work today & have got halfway through. As they say so far it's all good, music to keep you interested and some pretty ruff b-lines to boot. Am looking forward to getting out to listen to the rest on the way home!

It's a very good piece of work, as one would expect, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. If you want to be sly you can get it cheap and more quickly if you sign up http://www.fabriclondon.com/label/fabricfirst.php although they aren't the quickest and there are a few dud cds that they have done IMHO.

just bought a copy off e-bay from a fabricfirst member who said it wasn't his cup of tea.
a top bloke though. sold it for £6 - what it cost him.

so hopefully i shall be wrapping my eager ears around it by the weekend.

i don't usually get too excited by mix compilations, but with messrs pritchard and middleton at the helm, i'm right looking forward to it.

We get a bit bogged down in all the nerdy science type stuff and it just misses the point of what its all about really doesn't it? Music is supposed to be enjoyable after all..

...totally agree; but making it on computers is really, really hard !

I used to hear a lot of folk's, way back, and up to this day in fact, say that making computer music, isn't really making music at all, put aside all the "music isn't music, if it's from a computer shite"; to actually be able to sit, and make a fully, well produced piece of music, on a Mac or PC, is really, really tricky.

Bollocks to them all.

have to agree with ya mista....
just cos your using a computer doesnt make the process of "making a song, track" any easier...
it makes it easier one the production side of things.....
but MAKING the music itself is never an EASY task

I've given this a few listens now - like the opening Dabrye track, the Spacek and Harmonic 313 tracks. Some nice deep hip-hop beats on Mark's half. I think the Trickski tune works well in the mix. Tom's half is a tidy mix in a Deep Dish style, with some nice techno moments. The only slightly cheesy bit is Robots, but I also quite like that tune in a way!
Overall I was impressed!

The Trickski track was a good way of getting the tempo up.
It was tricky to do the mix as all of my records were on a boat when i was doing the mix!! Had to borrow and buy again and get the labels to send me copys of the tracks on 12". Also i had a huge list of tracks to start with but as we were doing half each it was hard for me to get to different places i wanted to go, Not enough time so i decided to build it up slowly and then get it to a point where tom could take it on, its sort of how we do when we play at fabric.
