A Question about partnerships...

Postby mattbirdfootball » Fri 22 Jul, 2005 8:44 pm

Hi Mark.
Im just interested to know.
Youve had a few collaborations / partnerships over the years.
Who did / does what?
What I mean is, did, for example, you do the beats and Tom do the melodies in GC / Jedis etc.?
I always thought (or was led to believe) that you were the expert of beats and Tom was the melody writer due to his classical training. (Although this can't be right as your melodies - Pulusha, H33, TroubleMAn etc. - seem just as good to me anyway.)
The whole colaboration thing interests me as music seems such a personal effort. I mean, for example, if you had written a beat / melody or whatever, was it a given that it would be used or was the other party ever critical and offered something better? Or was yours always the best and you were critical?
Im not making myself very clear - I would be clearer if we were speaking over a pint - know what I mean? (Im going to blame the wine.)
Anyway, this is not idle curiosity. Im trying to make music in my spare time with my buddy Splian (we both have Reason) but he is a lot better at it than I am. I recently did a musical idea (a very simple chill out track that I am quite proud of - it had only a few elements but was quite nice - as I say, only an idea) I emailed it to him and he has really funked it up with some excellent breaks and additional melodies etc. (it shares some characteristics with Antacid 2 - one of my favourite tunes ever.) So, its brilliant as far as Im concerened but there is no way I can improve it cos I just dont have the expertise I suppose.
I dont really know where Im going with this. I suppose Im a bit gutted that I dont have the funk!
(And dont appear to be getting it anytime soon...)
Oh well, at least ive got the best taste in music on earth.
Cheers.

Mark Pritchard is the 'don'... best producer that ever existed...

I've worked with him and I know who does what.

Mark I wish you all the best with your future down under, sending you lots of love and thanks over the years.

Don't be silly! I would say different rather than better. Better is in the ear of the beholder. Or in other words, who is to say that my beats are better than yours?

And by the way 'I' have the best music taste on earth... LOL!!

PS - You can be Mark and I'll be Tom ;)

Yes he does Chuck, but he never finishes anything so they kind of stop abruptly.
Good stuff though.

Yeah yeah, blah, blah!

Well, I will get time ONE day! I may just finish my contri for the new competition! Actually does that count? I have a track in the pipeline which could be used, but I have been working on it for the last 3 years... (only kidding!).

I am presuming we all have to do new stuff...

Thanks for the kind words though Mr Football!
